Yeah doing it to the scanner and IAC counts is the way to go for sure. That BS about disconnecting the IAC and adjust to 450, which I did using the scanner the first time, doesn't work in my opinion.
And it isn't hard to do, you just pop the stupid safety button out and turn the stop screw, I had to back mine off about 5-6 turns to get the counts up to 20-22. That IAC count seems to be key as long as the TPS is within range the ECM seems to be able to compensate just fine.

I think it would be OK by the book if the system is perfect and stock. But "if" is the operative word.
