Default Traction Control will not turn Off

Hello friends, Could someone please help me. I have a 1995 Corvette LT1 with 82.500 miles. I am wondering if anyone has had their traction control button fail to turn off the traction control before. There is no error code display on the panel. Also, my trip monitor buttons are not functioning.

IIRC, the dash switch just grounds a signal from the PCM. When the PCM senses that the circuit to ground it completed, it shuts off ASR. There's not much to go wrong on that end of things. If the switch itself has failed, you can test for that with a simple continuity test across it. But I think that's unlikely. I'm thinking that any short in that circuit would result in ASR always being OFF, not on. So the problem is more likely a failed ground, which may also be responsible for your trip monitor buttons not functioning.

I’d think that’s since it’s a safety issue/control, it would default to on when there’s an issue. Possibly the switch is broken and can’t interrupt the circuit.

That's backwards. It does default to ON at all times. But the switch doesn't interrupt the signal circuit - it completes it. Keep in mind that the switch isn't in the circuit that actually runs to the ASR module. It just gives the PCM a signal to shut off ASR, and it does this by completing a signal current to ground. So if the switch is broken, then it's failing to complete the circuit. That is not hard to imagine, but I just think it's fairly unlikely that the switch has failed, since it typically doesn't get used for a lot of cycles. It could, but since the C4 is notorious for grounding issues, I think it's more likely that the ground itself has failed. That said, the switch is easy to test: it should be discontinuous except when depressed, so just test it for continuity when depressed.
