On my '99 I found that the early (97-00) key fobs fail frequently. The 97-99 fobs have the passive option and are expensive if you can find them.

In the C5 section there are some threads you can search for on a common problem that re-soldering a post can fix. However that did not work on mine.

I went with converting it from the early to the late C5 system. I bought two new fobs, the receiver and tire sensors. The tire sensors cost less for the late than the early. For me it was less expensive to swap everything to the late system than just buying the tire sensors and fobs for the early system. Since I did that 5 or 6 years ago, they have worked perfectly.

I don't know if that is an option you may like or not, but it worked for me and is something to consider.

Good luck.
