Hi I recently removed my battery from my 86 vette to find a black foam tube cut in half that runs underneath the break booster. And I was wondering if it has anything to do with my brakes because i have to press the brake pedal down all the way to stop. And how I Can replace it.
Best suggestion is to follow it both ways to the end, figure out how long it is and replace it. From what I'm seeing, I'd guess it's cruise control related, not brake booster.
For now, get a splice and put it in and see what now works that didn't before.
As the oem rubber hoses degrade they can appear to be foam. I agree it looks like cruise vacuum source hose. Brakes I would check pads and hoses. Make sure brake pedal fully returns.
