Dash cluster 84 c4 New owner. Basic skills. But to good pass this up.
I traded a 2000. Harley davidson fdx for this nice 84 c4. But have a problem that even local chevy dealer couldn't answer. Dash cluster lights up, but motor was swapped out last year oct, and a 350 bored 40.was put in carbureted, I looked at all possible areas that where listed in a hands manual I had,and noted there is no ECM. IN THIS CAR .What are my options to get a working dash. Any aftermarket that dont utilizes the Ecm ? And ideas on a manuel dash gauge cluster that will work? Please help love to drive this besides to corner store and back
You shouldn't need the ECM to control most of the dash. You also shouldn't have to change to an aftermarket one as long as the original hasn't been damaged. I removed the factory computer in my 85 when I changed to an aftermarket stand-alone EFI. The only functions on my dash that do not work are the fuel range and MPG as they are controlled by the computer.
Does anything work on your dash? Speed, tach, coolant, oil pressure/temp? I'd venture to guess there is a blown fuse somewhere.
There are people who really hate the Atari Dashboard we got in our early C4's. Personally I like mine and I want to keep it working properly.
BATEE.COM is the place to get your Digital dashboard sorted out. The owner is awesome and very helpful. There is a lot of information online regarding fixing the dashboards. I fixed mine for the cost of the parts from Batee.com. Having the original style dashboard will help your car retain its resale value to the next owner. I spent less than $100 to fix my dashboard and the C68 Electronic A/C module.
