So I installed a hurst shifter, everything feels perfect 1st-4th but 5th-6th is Hart’s to find. I can find it I just have to be spot on! Its easy to push the shifter over too far and miss 5th.... I was curious if this is common I thought there would be a notch feel for the crash threw to reverse. Curious on if it’s installed right

yep . This is correct.
I have the original Hurst shifter (back when they made it) on my 1993 . I installed it in 2002.
it eliminated the pull up reverse lockout feature . I like how it somehow directs the lever ‘to the right’ during the 2-3 shift - making a moneyshift/wreck (ie. Going for 3rd at top of 2nd and you get first by mistAke) near impossible. Same applies when coming out of 3rd going for 4th. Again it somehow directs the lever during hard accel.
the only gear that can be hard to differentiate between is 6th/reverse.
However you get used to it. Obviously you would get a grind if you tried to go into reverse while in forward motion, but I know youd rather avoid that.

If you are having issues going into 5th/6th, there are two issues. You are shifting wrong and or you are over thinking the shift.
1-2 shift your palm should be facing you
2-3 shift your palm should be on the backside of the shifter just providing enough force to go into neutral gate and then into third.
3-4 shift your palm on top pulling straight back
4-5 shift your palm should be offset ten degrees, so as you go through neutral gate palm is now straight as you roll into 5th.
5-6 shift your palm should be on top maybe a 5 degree handle on the shifter to go straight back.
Then again, you should not need to be speed shifting going 5-6 which what a lot of people try to do for some odd reason. I've had the hurst for numerous years, and never a single issue missing a gear.
