Hi all! I'm a new member on this forum. Should've signed up sooner since I've owned my 1987 C4 since February this year. I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say! I am having an issue with my beloved C4 it's having an issue with staying running and all of the research I've done (speaking with Corvette professionals) it leads to clogged pre-cats or the main cat itself so I'm wondering if running open headers (stock) will hurt the L98 in any way. I've seen too many back and forth answers regarding this issue and I need to know for sure. Should I take off the exhaust at the end of the cat and just run it open or what? Any help is appreciated. PS I apologize if this isn't the correct thread.

Welcome to the forum, Ben, and congratulations on your C4!
You will find many great members and excellent information in the C4 section of the forum at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-1984-1996-19/.
If I remember correctly from our C4s, all except the 1996 were OBD! (actually a little variance with the '94s and '95s, but not an issue here). With an '87 that is OBDI, the O2 sensors are ahead of the catalytic converter and your engine is using those sensors for Air/Fuel Ratio and the AFR will be kept at the predetermined stoichiometric ratio, so your engine should run fine.
Bottom line, running open headers will not hurt your engine (although it might be a little loud driving around town. )
Enjoy your C4 and remember to save the wave!
