I have a 93 LT1 and it is running really rough. I need to know if the Smog A.I.R. pump is suppose to run all the time when engine is running? Mine shuts off a few minutes after I start the car. Appreciate any help. Thanks.
Gary
I believe it is working as it should. Electric smog pumps only pump on cold starts to help keep the cats clean while the engine is running rich in open loop. Once you get up to temp and into closed loop it will turn off.

If this were me.. and I pray it is not.. here is what Id do..
Id get a bottle of mapp gas and start hunting for intake leaks.. or carb cleaner.. whatever, choose your weapon. If I found nothing.. Id buy a hantek scope and learn how to check the optispark and injectors. Of course if your wires and plugs are original... God bless you...but they need to be changed first. Would suggest a pain pill to calm you down first
Youtube has many videos on using the hantek and I think even a few specific to the optispark.. optispark is not something you want to guess at, it should be determined bad first. I say hantek only because its economical and accurate. If you happen to have an oscilloscope you are set to go,

i agree. Since EFI it's role has been to pump air into exhaust manifolds to help O2(s) heat up quicker shortening time to closed loop. ECM can turn on air pump at times as a self test to verifying it's working.
This is a fantastic video on troubleshooting optispark with a scope. Hantek would do the same thing as this $3000 snapon scope less the bells and whistles.
