Default Engine update..

I thought I would report in and let you all know how the engine building is going.

Corky came up yesterday and we mocked up the block. It looked really good. We tried each of the piston with the connecting rods and rotated the engine to cleck clearances. Everything cleared except a few of the connecting rods came a little too close for comfort with the cam lobes. We were getting about .028" clearance so we took a touch off the rods right next to the rod bolts. That gave us another ~.040". Plenty to feel comfortable with.

The internals went back to Pittsburgh with Corky to get balanced.

While looking over the component we were dicussing the SR and I decided to spend the time to port and polish it. I started on the one runner this afternoomn with great success. I used a die grinder to take the major amounts out and then I used a flap wheel to polish it to a glass like finish. I only had time to do one runner on the one side, but it turned out quite well. There are absolutely no lips that you can see when you line up the plenum and runners.

Hopefully I can pick up some horsepower with the P&P. Guess we will see....

I was going to install it as is get some dyno results, then take it off and P&P the intake. But then I quickly changed my mind when I thought about having to take the intake off again.

Default Engine update..

It sounds as though when you and Corky come to Englishtown next season...there are going to be two more quick c4's :)

I'm glad to hear everything is going smoothly. You've endured enough crap! Time for some good to happen.

Thanks for keeping us posted. I should have mine back soon with the DFI Gen VII. Maybe Monday or Tuesday.

JD

Ski, what grit flappers did you use? I just finished that time consuming process. I'm going to use a buffing wheel with some compound in a runner and see how that turns out. I was really shocked to see how much material came out of the runners and plenum area just to get a nice transition into the runner. Mine's is going on a 383,afr190,219,vig.2800 combo. Getting anxious!

CHrist I'm not even sure what grit it was. I was just playing aound and went out to Walmart and it was the only flap wheel they had. It had sand paper, and scotch brite material in between. It lasted surprising long too. I just got to the last runner and it was basically shot. I still have the other one to do. I have only tackled the SR runners which look to be the easy part. The manifold is going to be a bear, and it looks to be much more of a restiction that the runners. Any advice, tools, etc that worked for you?

Good luck and try to keep the aluminum chips off ya!

You will enjoy your new power.
I'm hoping its crazy power.

Ski, I used a egg shaped burr with a die grinder, some wd-40 and the old saying, measure twice and cut once! I gasket matched the base to a 1256 fel-pro then matched the top side to the bottom of the sr runner, about
1 3/4". Good luck and watch the aluminum snow storm!!
