Default optispark harness install

Im thinking of buying the whole harness.. its not cheap but the opti is something you treat like a 2 day yr old infant. My question is how are is it to get to the two host connections on the opti. I took quick look and dont see a way to get to it.. My hoses are probably fine but its cheap insurance.. maybe the vac hose is deteriorating inside.. this would be bad.

For those that dont know, the vented opti's have a intake line and vacum line attached. there is a one way valve and also a filter on the vac line.

thanks

the one way valve is good for boost.

dont want boost (or nitrous) going into your optispark ...

Well, I took my filter and valve out and tested them and they seem fine. I cannot see the hose condition at the opti which is concerning but I guess I will go for it., Looks like a SOB to get in there and r&r the two hoses.

I also checked for 10hg vacum on the hose that comes off the intake boot.. based on my thumb meter its there which means the opti is sealed. This is a GREAT test by the way for anyone who has a vented opti.. if you dont have vacum there it needs to be fixed quickly otherwise the ozone will not be evacuated and you will get an acidic build-up which will destroy the opti cap and rotor.

Knowing this I may get the ***** to spray engine cleaner on it and clean it up. Yeah I know.. its nuts but I hate a dirty engine and mine is caked with oil. Im hopeful it came from my intake gasket which appears to have been done.

All hail the optispark.

i believe if you remove the belt tensioner? It becomes easy to get at the wires (and hoses) to the optispark

i might be wrong. A service manual will tell you the easy way to do it

The service manual is the last place Id look for for an easy way to do something.. Not trying to be a jerk just kidding around.. case and point.. valve cover gaskets.. did it a lot easier without pulling the serp, belt and alternator..

Im going to be doing the cam I think within the next year.. I'll get it then... thanks

i hate when a service manual tells you basicaly. Its easy. Just 4 steps.

step 1. Remove the exhaust (no mention about how bad or what do about it all being rusted)
Step 2. Remove the cross member (ie. Again No mention about what to do or how bad its rusted in place)
Step 3. Remove the transmission (refer to chapter 7 on how to do that
step 4. Now you can get to that sensor you need to replace

then just follow the steps above in reverse 😫
