Hi fellas, happy Holidays, I am in the middle of replacing my windshield on my 85 and the VIN Data plate is Rusted and I am going to sand and paint it my question is what is the correct color. I can't seem to find any photos showing the color. Any help with photos is welcomed.

you shouldnt paint it. they were just metal i think
i would rub it with a rag and some sort of rust remover. i may try some 0000 steel wool but that will shine it.
Yes, I could most definitely shine it, but was that the original look or was it painted a certain color, want to keep the car as close to original as possible
I had to fix mine as a FL hurricane somehow allowed water to get in there, and STAY there for a month.
When we pulled windshield, i removed the tag, acid dipped it, then gave it a mist of flat black. Re-rivet the plate, and looks fantastic. You 'shouldnt' do that, but i did nothing illegal, and no one can tell the difference. Its the original to the car, so as long as your not swapping plates out, your fine...
