i just came across a 2004 yukon on craigslist for 1500 bucks, says engine runs perfect.. that should have everything i need as far as engine control modules n all that stuff already in the truck to swap over to a 91 6 speed wouldnt it?
i need some advice fast, i doubt it will be on craigslist long. please anyone who has done the swap or knowledge of it let me know
oh by the way it said it was a 6.0 litre engine
thank you for the reply drcook, i have already talked myself right out of that mess though.. im sure the engine, even running good would need to be freshened up.. lots of money, lots of time lots of everrything that i am really not into doing. that getting into a whole lot more than head swaps and cam changes. no idea the final bill of a project like that, thousands im sure
There are a couple threads about LS to ZF6 on this forum. They can work but require specific parts which will raise your swap $$$. You would definitely need a new LS flywheel/clutch/pressure plate setup and a particular throwout bearing to make it work. McLeod discontinued the 1345 throwout bearing so I think you have to use a Ram 78135 which alone is ~$270. You are obviously going to need a new oil pan and the ECM and tuning will need to be researched. I know the earlier '96-'03 #411 ECMs (drive by cable) are easy to setup up for manuals but quick searching on the '04-'08 ECMs is a little muddied. I think they can be easily converted to manual as well but that may not be the case. Either way, you got to add in the cost of HP Tuners to get it all working correctly or if you aren't fluent in GM tuning, you are going to have to shell out some money for a tune.
The transmission issue is going to be your biggest hurdle. Like I said, new clutch setup and also a different bellhousing. The throwout bearing may also require a different clutch master cylinder.
I suggest searching for threads on this topic and PMing those members to see if they got it all figured out or what they used.
I would personally hold off on an emergency buy, lots of 6.0s out there for little $$$$.
