I bought an antenna ground plane kit for my 89 Vette. The instructions were very clear about the installation except for one thing: how do you get the tail light assemblies out without taking out the rear fascia. The Corvette manual said that that was the only way to remove the entire assembly. Anyone have an idea what to do about installing a ground plane?
If you're just wanting to remove the taillights remove the license plate reach your arm in to the hole with I think a 10mm socket and remove the three bolts push from the back to get the light out of the hole. good luck.
Just finished doing this very same thing.......just a shot in the dark....I did it but don't know how I finished it.......but did it......so can you.....I just closed my eye's and set it up....no problem.....
What did you do? Use the Force? How long did it take you and did it improve the reception? I hate driving along and my stereo goes back annd forth from stereo and mono and back. My radio checked out fine and I looked at the back of the car and I couldn't find any sign that I had a ground plane installed; hence the question? Thanks for the input.
Scuse me. I don't get it. What's an Antenna Ground Plane Kit?
I know what an antenna looks like
I know what a plane looks like
I know what the ground looks like(been drunk enough times)
Help me out here guys.
An antenna ground plane is used for improving reception on the radio. I am not an expert on this stuff but it helps to draw in a stronger reception. It is installed on the antenna mount and strung throughout the back of the car. There was a service bulletin issued for the retrofit for this as later Vettes had it installed at the factory. I think that metal cars don't have this problem and they use the entire car for the plane. but Vettes are fiberglass and can't do as well. I think. However, you can't fly in this plane.
Thanks for the explanation. Now I gotta get one.
I know this is stupid and I don't wanna steal you post . But,,,,,, I keep my vette spotless( Zainoed to death) but I can't keep the friggin' dust off. Would puttng on a ground strap, somewhere inconspicuous( big friggin word, had to look it up) help?
I have a Ground Plane kit I don't need - ordered it from Mid-America for my '86, but put in a new antenna which had one with it. If anyone's interested, email me first, send a few bucks for mailing costs, and you can have it.
I don't think that it would work. Dust particles do have a charge albeit what I don't know. The Corvettes have a fiberglass body so anything electrical won't work. Sorry about that. I have the same problem with mine and mine is covered.
