1985 vanity visor with lighted mirror connector difficlty
hi, 1985 corvette replacing right side visor with lighted vanity mirror. the electrical male attachment from the car does not attach to female electrical on the new visor. ecklers refers me to AC delco vanity mirror connector part 25-109476-1 which i purchased. i am not sure on how to splice the connector into existing wiring. there are 2 blue small tubes that come with the connector. i don't want to start cutting wires and screw up something. i would appreciate any help if someone is familiar with this fix. thanks
You have to cut the existing wire and splice it into the pigtail connector you bought. Those tubes are heat shrink. Just be sure to use solder on the splice. And make sure the heat shrink tubing is on the wire before splicing them together because you can't put it on after they've been connected and soldered. Just slide the tubes down outta your way, then slide em up over top of the spliced connection, then use a heat gun to shrink it down tight. Blow dryer will even work. I wouldnlt use a lighter or anything like that to heat the tubing.
I used a different heat shrink that already had a solder ring inside of it and used a heat gun on it to melt to solder.
I wired mine directly, though, since I couldn't find the connector for my 90. If I ever stumble across the connectors I'll redo it. I don't expect those sun visors to last very long anyway.

thanks for your help is it absolutely necessary to solder the wire. can it be secure enough by crimping down of tube and using hair dryer or heat gun to shrink plastic over it?
I believe those sleeves you have contain the solder inside them. No instructions came with the kit? Strip the wires carefully to avoid damaging the copper conductors, about 1/4 inch, then slide a sleeve onto each wire. Twist the wires together so the outside of the twisted area is the same diameter as the wire diameter. This twist is one wire over the other to make a smooth cylindrical twist, not like a pigtail that sticks out. Slide the sleeve over the center of the splice, and heat the sleeve until it shrinks.
