Default Dash Removal

I looked online, but haven't found a schematic of the screws/bolts that hold on an 85 dash. Does someone have a pic that is scanned? I think that I read that there are 20, but I know that I can't see that many, I wonder if I'm missing ones that I should need to take off. I need to get a shop manaual!!!

I don't have a picture or schematic but I Know there are a lot less than 20 screws. There are two that are in the center defroster, two that hold the crash pad on (PITA to get), and I think but am not positive that there are 5 other screws that are on the passenger side. These go from the bottom of the dash through the gauge panel and AC panel to the dash. After that you have to yank it STRAIGHT STRAIGHT STRAIGHT back WITHOUT any angle or very little angle. I presss this becasue if you pull up on the dash and then back you WILL break it. Other than the above screws it is only held in by clips that are located by the windshield thus the pulling STRAIGHT back.

Forgot to mention it would best to remove the ac panel and gauge panel to gain access and find all the screws that hold the dash in place.

What do you mean by 'dash'? dash pad, I/P carrier, Digital dash clusters, etc.

When I said "dash" I was referring to the panel in which the non-bose speakers reside. I'm glad that there are less than 20 bolts (I see 2 screws too). Now I just have to pray that I don't break the darn thing tonight taking it out!!

It takes a little coaxing to get loose, as the metal clips tend to corrode a little bit. These metal clips are just screwed into the styrofoam dash pad, so they'll easily tear your dash to pieces if you put too much force on them. You don't need to remove the A-pillar trim. Make sure you get the two screws up by the defroster vent.

I don't know if it is the same as the 88 but there are about 6 regular screws and two long ones. THe long ones are in the middle defroster outlet. THere is one on the passenger side all the way to the edge underneath. Most of my mounting tabs were broken off by the previous dipsh*& not bothering to look first.

ok, I'm wondering if i have the same thing going on. I have like 4 total screws/nuts holding the thing on, and I'm finally trying to silence one of the most annoying squeaks/rattles on earth! what exactly did you do to remedy the problem w/ the tabs (are they on the dash pad, or where exactly are they and how did you fix)?

The tabs are not on the dash pad. there was a little of the old tabs left so I cut a piece of aluminum big enough to cover the piece of the tab that was lefft but not so big that is sticks out. Then I drilled a hole in them and covered them with electrical tape and screwed them into place.
