Reverse gear on an auto
I have an automatic and when its cold it has a problem engaging reverse. No problems when out driving it around. Just when I get started. I shift into reverse and nothing, I rev it and it as if its in neutral, but it will finally go into reverse. Any ideas?

sorry, no info to help, but sounds like you need to have someone take a look at it. have you checked the tranny fluid? does the symptoms change with air temp?

If it also has a cold delay to first gear, then your torque converter is draining fluid back to the pan(check valve leaking). If it is only in reverse, not sure, but a little time and luck, it may cure itself.

Service manual has a number of possibilities; components sticking, forward clutch not releasing, problems in oil pump assembly, valve body and auxiliary valve body problems, lo and reverse clutch problems.
I would have it checked out at a reputable transmission shop. When was the last time you had a fluid and filter change? Might be time for some maintenance work!!
