This morning my rear defroster was not working. Its a recent install/upgrade to a top with a rear defroster. I checked the wires where they connect to the car from the top and they are hooked up. They operate on the side mirror defroster circuit and the side mirror defrosters are operating. Does the top share the side mirror fuse? If not, what fuse covers the circuit? Any other ideas as to why its failing? If its not an easy fix I can do now I'll whip out the meter on the weekend and hunt down that little gremlin. :smash:
jeez... I don't really want you whipping anything out in public... :jester
I am having the same problem. make sure that the leads going to the top are tight. I need to take a look at mine... I took my struts off the window to do some work on the rear interior trim... hasn't worked since!
I have a 93 so it should be the same, the mirror use a 5 amp fuse in the panel inside that is fed from the MAIN grid that uses a 40 Amp fuse in the engine compartment in block #1 and should be labeled "RR Defog fuse" coming from a RED wire (obviously positive). If the side mirrors are working then my schematic shows that the fuse should still be intact. The main wire run from the fuse to the grid array should be PURPLE and then turns into BLACK/ORANGE through the grid to ground. If you need the actual schematic picture let me know, I'll scan it and send it to you. This applies to both c68 and c60 heating controls. Good luck...kitt
It would be simple enough just to attach your volt meter on your leads to see if your getting power. If you are then you could have a broken or open circuit on the back glass. If not then you know its got to be a seperate fuse since your outside mirrors are working. This should narrow it down for you.

Hope this helps
Double checked the leads for tightness. Gonna have to use the meter as you said.
I have had a connection failure from the wire crimped into the spade lug that plugs into the blade on the rear window defogger. That is , no connection from wire to spade lug (crimp corroded I guess). I soldered the connection and it has worked ever since. Use your ohmeter to see if you have a continuous circuit through the glass conductors (0.5 ohm) , both at the spade lugs and then at the wire on the gas struts. You probably have 12v at the struts but not at the spade lug.
