Default L98 tune

Hi
What do you need to do with engine and powertrain if I want to install a procharger?
Of course, it will run on the street mostly... So driveability is very important.
How much power can i squeeze out?
So what more do i need to do than Install a procharger kit and run safe?

Which kit?

I run a Charger on both my C4 and IROC.

They sell both complete and tuner kits. Looking at their claimed HP numbers... don't expect that much - certainly not at the wheels.

Since you have a MAF car, the complete kit will come with a booster pump and an FMU. This allows the system to jack the fuel pressure up and supply fuel at the elevated pressure on stock injectors. It should also have an MSD or other ignition box to provide the extra spark energy to jump the gap under boost and a boost referenced retard box with a select-able switch of 1-2-3-4 degrees per lb of boost.

This will be all you need... it is old tech and will work but won't be optimized.

For my L98, I have now purchased an EBL ecm to start tuning. To get the most out of the system, you will need some custom tuning.

Lovely thanks for the information. However, how much power can engine and other driveline components take?

That is a very complex question to answer. The bottom end of the motor will depend on the tuning. Knock (detonation) could kill it at any power level. The SBC can handle a fair amount. It is really Torque (Force loading) and dynamics (RPMs) that cause things to come apart. Too much of either at a given point and it can come to an end quick. In general the L98 will have no trouble surviving in the 400-450hp range if it has a safe tune and you don't beat on it constantly.

The Dana rear-ends hold up very well if you are not constantly drag racing and there are guys running 12s on the D36. If you have a D44, don't worry about it.

If you have a 700R4, this is what I would worry about in the 400hp range. Might want to look into a shift kit and there are other kits out there to beef it up, but again if you are not constantly beating on it, it should survive.

I will beat it... However i will aim to drive 2000 miles isch every year and most of it will just be normal driving.
So is 350 isch hp safe?

Its the zf 6 speed all original.
