external differences between dana 36 and dana 44?
anyone know any external differences?
i'm going to look at a car that has a 700R4 put in and i want to see if it at one point had a 4+3.. any ideas on where to look besides the RPO code list?

I called this place today; Sam said a 44 will fit in my 84 Vette (now has a 36) but there's a difference between MT & AT Danas.
Give Sam a call tomorrow for more info.

Colin, it's the bolt pattern on the pumpkin to batwing......... I'm not remembering the specifics, but I can check tomorrow if you still need it. I gotta take off now, sorry.
Try a search in the archives, there was a post several months ago that had pictures of the two side by side.......... I'm pretty sure it was in the C4 parts forum.................

This is a Dana 44, note the bolt pattern. The Dana 36 has three bolts across the top, where the 44 has only two.

Here is a pic of both a Dana 44 and a 36. The 44 is on top. You can notice how much beefier it is.

Bought a Vette "CHEAP" that appears to be an '84 4+3 car. I'll check the pumpkin when I go pick it up on Monday. woohoo!
