Default 3 wire O2 question

I just recieved my 3 wire heated O2 sensors from Jeff Kopp. Outstanding considering that I ordered them on Monday! Anyway, I'm looking at them and I see 3 wires of course. Two are brown, one is purple. I assume the purple is the signal wire. That leaves the two brown wires. For all I can tell they are the same. Does it matter which way I hook these up? One of them needs to be 12 volts the other needs to be a ground but does it matter which one?

I'm thinking that it shouldn't matter. If it's just a resistive type heater it really shouldn't matter which way the current flows through it should it?

You are correct the two brown wires are for the heater. And they are non polar. Hook them up either way.

Those that have done this - did you use a relay for the heated wires, or did you wire one straight to 12V source? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't matter the polarity. I just ran mine to an ignition controlled 12v source. Wiper motor works nicely. I am planning on putting a fuse panel out under the hood for all the goodies..

Thats what I did as well, no relay, but I used GM connectors so there is no "spliced" wires, and I can pull the 3 wire out and replace it with a single wire in a snap just incase something happens
