Default passive keyless entry madness

my passive keyless entry is forever unlocking the doors. If I tap the car, it'll unlock. if I slam the garage door, it'll unlock. if I slam another car door near by, it'll unlock. if my kids walk by the car, it'll unlock. if I look at the car it'll unlock  all with the keys in the igintion, or keys laying on the car floor.

if I'm working under the hood, with the keys in the igition, every tap of the tool it'll unlock. it is really driving me crazy.

is there a common solution?
thx
Larry

If the keys are in the ignition then the PKE is disabled so you should not have the issues of locking and unlocking of the car.

Whenever I'm washing the car or working on it, I'll just throw the keys on the floor or in my toolbox where they won't move.

Yep, easy solution.
With the doors closed and unlocked press and hold the door button on the remote. After about 5-10 seconds the locks will cycle to lock and back to unlock. The system is now disabled until you repeat the process, which will re-enable it. This is great for working on the car, washing it, etc with the keys in your pocket or in the car.
BTW, as I understand it the system will arm/disarm with the key in the ignition if the ignition is not turned to RUN or ACCESSORY. The owners manual states that if you lock the keys in the car you should shake the car, so the motion will cause the passive entry to activate, unlocking the doors.
Pretty funny I guess...

Exactly what I was gonna suggest....... turn it off. As far as fixing the problem, I don't have any ideas.

Best way to fix it is to leave the transmitter in the house, in the drawer it never comes out of. :smash:

Mine is completely freaking out too. I went through the whole process of reprogramming it, but sometimes it recognizes the fob, sometimes it doesn't. Lately when it does, it pops the locks, and continually tries to open the locks over and over. When I walk away though- it doesn't lock!, so I have to go back and manually lock it, and hope it doesn't pop it's locks again. I'm sure whatever is causing MY problem is also causing yours, I just wish I could tell you what the problem is!-J

It is probably the battery making poor contact. Try squeezing the key fob together to ensure contact.

Sometimes if the battery is making intermittant contact, the car will think the fob is going in and out of range, and the door locks will do funky things (ie. lock when I'm inside the car, etc)
