Hello all. As a new vette owner I have that wonderful headlight gear failure. My question is. How in the hell do you get pin out of the shaft that holds the smaller gear in place? I have used a hammer and a punch and it does not appear to move any. Is there a secret I am missing? Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, side note. I ordered a rebuilt one from flea bay and it works with the exception of a click every few seconds when it is shut off. Would this come from dirty contacts?
You MUST use a punch that is the correct size. A little WD40 too work great. Hit it too much and the aluminum bracket will crack, ask me how I know. The how to is in the forum archives, search that for the EXACT size punch, I want say 5/16 but that may need be right, it's late Comes right out.
Thanks all. I managed to become a master at installing and reinstalling headlight assemblies today. Hahaha. My problem after I hooked up the headlight is now a constant tick about every 5-7 seconds from just the passenger side. There is also a delay sometimes coming from only the passenger side. I even replaced motors and cleaned up brushes and the contacts. Still this annoying tick, but only in the closed position. For now I have just unhooked the power to the pass side headlight. Has anyone else ran across this? I have read where it could be the headlight switch? Any other ideas or thoughts from anyone? Being new to the vette world is making me a better mechanic for sure. And making me drink more also. Lol!!!
Hate to say it but sounds like something is in a bind on the passenger side. Did you loosen the motor on top to gear back in? Did you tighten it back down?
I had the whole assembly fully apart. The worm gear spun freely once I put it back together. My auto electrical skills are not the sharpest so Im not sure how to fully test the motor not hooked up to the car. (Which is prob what I need to do). The weird part is the ticking is only in the closed position. When the light is on (no ticking) but as soon as it closes. It ticks. It has me somewhat flustered at the moment.
