Default Adjust guide plates?

These are Comp Pro Magnum rockers, with 7.1” Trick Flow pushrods, Comp guide plates and studs are 7/16. After I set lash seems a lot of the valves look off centered, when viewed side to side. I loosened 2 studs and wiggled the guide plate over, still not enough. What’s the solution?

If both rockers are off to the same side, you can grind the stud hole on the guideplates to center the rockers.

In all cases it is just one rocker that is off per guide plate.

They make adjustable push rod guide plates that are 2 piece with a slot so you can change the center line before you torque the rocker arm stud down.

jmgtp, guide plates are not rocket science but if not adjusted correctly can put the rocker tip at a bad angle like yours, wear the guide plate and even the p-rod. Side loading the valve stem will wear and ruin your valve guides in short time. Your 1.6 rockers put the p-rod closer to the rocker fulcrum (or body or whatever it's called) so you need to check you have clearance in the head slot and the p-rod is not rubbing in the head slot. Mostly just stock iron heads need to have the slot enlarged for higher rocker ratios - but can't be overlooked on any head. Next check is the p-rod should just glide on the guide plate - not rub it to cause any friction. But of course you don't want the guide slot so large the p-rod can flop around. Pretty much just eyeball fit up/engineering here. In days past the guide plates were pretty just thin tin and I could open them where needed just by wiggling an old p-rod in the guide slot or even hammer the p-rod in if needed. Nowadays some of the guide plates are much thicker and you need to grind out the slot for the p-rod. Again you just want the p-rod to glide through the guide slot without any friction (or slop).

Something else that gets overlooked frequently is clearance between the rocker arm and the spring retainer. You should take an unbent paper clip and verify it fits between the rocker arm and the spring retainer for the full travel of the lobe/valve.

Hope this helps ya.

appreciate the replies, decided for the cost adjustable guide plates would make this easy, waiting on them to arrive. The PRs are not contacting any part of the head and the springs/caps clear the RR just fine, as they should as these are all complementary parts recommended by the manufacturer of the cam.
