Hello all. My 1st post on this forum. I am the happy new owner of a '96 Convertible with probably the normal amount of squawks. I am working my way through them. A strange one popped up out of the blue today. My speedo display went bonkers. I have attached a pic. Being in direct sunlight or not has no bearing. I look forward to any suggestions.
TIA
Looks like normal segment check it's part of the bulb check. It should be just a "blink" as key is cycled from on to start.. If car is sitting in such a way cluster is getting full sun.segments maybe visible.
Welcome to the Forum! What is the background on the car? Was is working before and for how long? What were you working on the car before this display happened? The more information you give the better the answers will be. Any radio mods or aftermarket alarms?
Thanks for the welcome! The speedo display did read normally since I acquired the car, although it does suffer from the faded LCD display. OEM radio has been removed and replaced by a modern piece of junk which I am working to rectify now.
Were you repairing something when this happened. I don't know with limited information, but without jumping to a bad cluster,I would look at the radio wiring as I believe you have a short, the radio, a/c control, cluster, PCM, and CCM and brake module run on a "circuit line" I bet you have a wiring short somewhere in it, otherwise a loose connection at the cluster or inside the cluster. Thats why I asked about the radio, if its a poor job, it could have a wiring touching or shorted, other wise it is time for trouble shooting, but Batee can repair your cluster. Be sure to take it out correctly. Its not hard to do, but if its your first time it can be a task, and you need a manual. I would check code before ANYTHING, both PCM and CCM codes.Does it look like this while the car is running? With the lights on or off?
The previous owner did remove the OEM radio and installed another. In doing so, he disconnected an accellerometer and did not reconnect it. As a result I had an assortment of lights on the DIC. I had a local mechanic look into that thinking it might be wheel bearing problems, whereupon he discovered the disconnected sensor and all is well. All was well for 2 weeks until this display problem. It is like that driving or parked, in direct or indirect sunlight.
Some additional info. I don't know if it is relevant or not. I have discovered that an entire bottle of Windex was spilled under the passenger seat. Anything in that area?
