Engine compartment switched 12v source?
It's 3:00am, I just got finished putting everything back together after replacing the opti and installing a Meziere. Where is the best place to tap into for power source for the new pump? :sleep:

I am following this thread because I have a similar question.
I can tell you what not to tie into and that's the primary side of the coil or the ignition wires leading to the coil!

I am not shure how the water pump is wired. IS it a 3 wire. ground, constant 12v and a 12v switched. If all you need is switched you can tap in to the wiper motor for the 12v switched

Not sure if you want to tie into any *major* engine components as described above. The wiper motor has a switched 12v source. Not sure about you guys, but if something isn't going to start working correctly, for whatever reason, I would rather it be that than a critical component.

You guys were too late. I ended up tapping into the switched feed for one of the relays on the left side of the fan shroud to run a relay for the meziere pump. Pump works great, new opti works great! There's still something very wrong however :mad:

If the WP doesn't have an internal relay you need to add one with the capacity to handle the current draw.
Then you can use any source of switched power to drive the relay.
You might tap into the fuel pump drive line (at the oil pressure safety switch) for switched +12Vdc source.

Not sure what exactly is wrong.. but this is what I did for my Meziere-
Ran the line from the pump to a 40 amp relay (~ 15 bucks at NAPA). It goes to the accessory ground and accessory line), and the ground from the pump to the car frame. I then tapped into the igniton coil relay (red wire I beleive), and sent that to the switch line on the NAPA relay. The switch ground on the relay then went to the frame.
As soon as the cars ignition is turned to the on position, 12V runs through the coil line, which opens the switch, and supplies your water pump with power. This way, at the track, I can cool my engine, without starting the car.
Edit: I originally tapped into my fan relays, but had some problems with it a few days later.. read- the pump didnt come down, and I looked at my temp gauge and it was PEGGED.. so I switched to the ignition relay, as it is ALWAYS on when the key is in the on position.

Sorry, the pump works fine. I was replacing the opti because of a miss and the car has 110k on it - the miss seemed great for the first five minutes but then came back with a vengeance. The car wouldn't even start for me last night and is sitting at a dealership right now awaiting Monday morning :mad At least, the problem isn't intermittent anymore :hat
Thanks for the info about the fan relays, I'm defintiely keeping an eye on the coolant gauge and will be wiring a couple LED's into the power and ground side of the cicuit to provide health monitoring.
