Switched out old burnt bulbs about 6 months ago. Everything was working fine until yesterday when I started my 1986 vette and the gauge lights didn’t turn on. This morning when I put my key on the ON position they lit up, but when I turned the car on they became dim, when I tap the gauge cluster the lights turned completely off. When I tapped again they came back on but were dim and barely visible. Any ideas?

Sounds like the photo sensor on the panel may be going out. or you may have a loose ground. Either way...

The white plastic connector that connects the two main circuit boards together overheats and burns over time due to the current draw on the standard bulbs. That could cause the condition you are describing. If you don’t want to try and fix it yourself send it to batee.com or if you do use the batee.com website to get some ideas.

I will also chime in and say that Bryan at batee.com is a great guy and does some great work! He rebuilt the cluster in my 84 recently and the turnaround time was extremely fast!! The guy really knows what he's doing and is very honest.
