My clutch over the time of a couple days went from feeling normal to having almost no resistance until it is practically to the floor. Does this mean I need to "bleed the clutch"?
The clutch shouldn't be bad already, It was replaced not too long ago (20-30K miles)
If the clutch does need bleeding, how difficult is this to do for someone with moderate mechanical ability? How much would I expect a shop to charge?
It is easy to do. Jacking up the car is the most difficult thing.
Must access the reservoir as stated above-it is below the computer and access the slave cylinder on the bellhousing. This needs to be unbolted and turned 180 degrees and rebolted up. This puts the bleeder nipple on top so the air will escape.
Have someone push the clutch in, while you slightly open the bleed valve (have a hose on the nipple into a mayo jar) and the fluid will get pushed out. Close the bleeder and have your friend push the clutch in again...and open the valve...etc. Do it until the pint of fluid is gone that you bought. Put everything back and you are done.
you more then likly lost fluid due to a leak in the system, bleeding is not a normal maintenance requirement. Check under the dash at the clutch pedel, see if there is fluid there and check the slave cyl. on the bell housing.
I'm with frank on this one! I just finished this bought with my car. I had my master and my clutch safety switch go out at the same time. Both are a major PIA on our cars. About week after I changed those parts my slave went out :mad I guess when it rains it pours in my garage :smash:
