Weatherstripping and Water proof issues.
With the weather getting nicer recently I decided that I would wash my 88 for the first time. Much to my dismay I found that the point of contact between the window and the frame all the way down is not water tight. The weather stripping on this car has seen less then 300 miles so this was concerning to me. If any one has any tips on getting the car water tight it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
on my old 86 (was a resuscitated roach, not a show car, but it did look very nice) i used black polyurethane and ran a bed between the glass and the trim. then between the trim and the retainer and that did solve my issue. on nicer cars like my Z, i wouldn't do that, I would disassemble the parts and properly seal between each piece.my z doesn't leak, must be original.
Not many C4's would pass the water spraying test that GM did while developing the C4. Mine had a bad leak near the fuse box on the passengers side. New weatherstripping and it leaks no more... The hardest to close is the rear glass with the both doors and windows closed. I lubricated the gasket with silicone oil and it closes much easier. A lot of Tire Shine products come with silicone as of of the ingredients. I found it in a bottle someplace and it has served me well for two decades on all of our vehicles. Just do not use Vasoline Petroleum Jelly as that stuff will destroy the seals.
