ya. does the dash get brighter at night? At night, might dash is verryyyy faint.so faint i cant see it. Would it require a rebuild to get it back working correctly?
Try shining a flash light to the sensor on the top left corner of the dash to see if it still working. If it does, your dash should brighten up a bit. Beside that I guess you need to repair the dash. There is a site from Baytee (sp) showing how to fix this. It may even be in the tech tips sectionon top under tools.
I think it's the Inst fuse that you should look at. When you're under a fair amount of streetlight at night, can you faintly see it? And when it's pitch black out is there no display at all? If that's the problem, look at the Inst fuse. If it's good, check out the optical sensor.
ya. under bright street lights i can barely see it
And it looks fine in broad daylight? Definitely check the Inst fuse and replace as necessary. If it's fine then try the sensor test as mentioned above. If you shine a light into the sensor and it brightens up considerably then replace the optical sensor.
The light sensor in my '87 seems to have a bit of a time delay on it - so you might need to shine the light for 30 or 45 seconds before you see the dash respond. Same if you cover up the sensor before you see it dim. Also, have you checked the brightness via turning the light switch ****? Does it respond at all there (again with some time delay - at least on mine that's how it is). ~Juliet

Yeah, I guess it does get brighter at night. This is interesting, as most stereo's I've ever installed dim at night. (It takes less LCD brightness to see it at night). I don't see why the Corvette is different. I have trouble seeing mine in the daytime, especially with my shades on. Mine also gets brighter when I'm pushing high rpms, I assume this is from the big charge put out by the alternator.
