Default 1990 Paxton install

So I hae a Paxton that Im going to install on a 90 vette 6 speed.
The car is pretty much all stock except for exhaust - no cats, 180 stat and air foil.
I want to do a tune up before I start on the Paxton install.

Anybody else out there have a blower installed??

Any advice?

In regards to the tune up, I know I have to run a cooler plug, any recommendations?
Wires?

Running one on an 88. Use the factory recommended AC plugs.. forget the number off the top of my head. I am using an MSD Boost referenced retard box. No knock on Tuner Pro RT.... probably could take more than the 6PSI it is set up for, or at least some more timing. I am pulling 1* per pound of boost. This is an Iron Headed L98 in an IROC, so with the aluminum heads, it should handle a bit more timing and boost.

Depends on what your kit contains. The FMU requires splicing into the fuel lines, extra pump means some wiring, the Vortech uses engine oil and a return so there is adding that in, wiring in the ignition box, moving accessories. Yes, it is a bit of a project. Since the Vortech uses engine oil there isn't much maintenance other than check your belt. It does help a TPI breathe up top since it is shoving air in. Seems to pull strong up to 5K+ but have not had it on a dyno.

I would not use any "FMU" to modify fuel pressure or mount fuel pump in series. Get correct sized injectors and tune the ECM for boost.

Well yes ofcourse... However, on an otherwise basically stock car that is bolt on and go it is fine.

If you want to extract the most out of your blower set up, you will definitely need custom tuning and the correct size injectors and pump. That starts to go down a completely different path of how you plan to handle tuning on a TPI. It is not flash based, but there are options out there for swapping ECMs, burning chips, piggy backs, etc. However, I am guessing this is a hot air paxton kit that is probably running 6-8PSI. All that is not necessary to get started out. Bolt your kit on and enjoy. When you are ready for more, you can build on to support higher boost levels or increased CFM.

With the Paxton came the injection, oil cooler dipstick and oil cooler, (only need to buy pump and reservoir). MSD boost retard (blue msd).

im not really looking to make crazy hp. Buying a ZR1 is in the future plans for that.

Basically wanted something a little more than stock. I always liked the way Paxton’s looked and sounded.

I’ve been working with Greg over at Blowerworks.
Great guy!

He set me up with the tuning software.
BUT that is a bit of time down the road.
