Default Cleaning question

Last night I changed out the weather stripping around the rear window. A pretty easy job by the way.

When I removed the old piece there is this tan colored glue on there that doesn't dry. It has a grease like texture. Of course I got a little on my hands and tried my best not to get it on the car. But of course I did. I tried to get it off with soap and water and it just moves it around.

What cleaner should I use that will remove it and not hurt the clear coat?

Thank you
Doug

I would try a little Dawn dish-washing detergent. It is one of the best things for cutting grease and is not potentially harmful to the paint.

I use simple green a lot for cleaning the engine, suspension and the wheels but I would be very careful with it on a painted surface. Don't leave it on for more than few seconds and rinse it off very thoroughly.

Believe it or not "Blue" dawn is the most powerful (notice the pictures with the oil covered duck/birds, its blue dawn). Plus Sal Zaino mentioned it years ago to wash 2x with blue Dawn before claying and polish application.

Funny thing about simple green....I had one of my DD sit for a couple of months and there was black stuff on the paint (was under a tree). I'm giving it to one of my sons. I washed it with a bucket of simple green which took a good amount off, I told my son to get the simple green and a rag and wash off the remaining black stuff. Now to wash(car soap), clay and coats of polish (zaino)

there is a theory here on the forum that that stuff is supposed to be there. I left it on my 87 when I did the seal.

Yes- Simple green will do the trick and then follow up with a bit of wax and you are done. The stuff is Bio friendly so your paint is safe but it will remove any polish products.
