Default Settle a small disagreement for me...

So myself and a... we'll call them a colleague, were discussing the work I've done to the car and what not and I said I still have the stock small runner intake on it. I was explaining the renegade to him and showed him the port discrepancy between a stock cfi manifold and my heads... anyway, he turned and looked at me and said the thing will be really loud after I hopefully get my hands on a new larger port manifold. I kind of stood there and was like, the manifold won't make the thing louder. He was pretty adamant that it would. Outside of a little more intake noise from flowing more air I can't see the exhaust note changing at all other than being able to rpm easier. I'm pretty certain I'm right here... right? A bang is a bang no?

Your'e right. Unless it sets up some strange resonance - and I doubt it would - then changing the intake manifold alone won't increase level. If you change the filter and air box setup it could. A lot of people these days refer to that as the "intake," so maybe he's confusing the two things?

talking with someone who just drives their car vs someone who likes to tinker with their car is like a chevy guy trying to talk sense to a ford guy.

That's what I thought at first too hence why I showed him the actual manifold and differences between the two. I don't really know. I know I had more tip in noise (whistling through the throttle bodies) with the first renegade I had but that made sense since I wasn't running the air cleaner yet. Once the lid was on it was about the same. No perceived exhaust change. I'll hopefully set colleague straight.

Yea I mean he seemed relatively knowledgeable up until that point. Then I was just like... uh... what?

Mine didn’t get any louder. I can’t imagine what this person is talking about. If you take the air box off you’ll get more induction noise.

Is he thinking of an intake resonance chamber?

Yea. Like I said... i think I had a little more induction noise with the renegade but mine was so messed up I can't say if it were that or some leak or something. Tip in sounds different (hisses more under the hood) with the renegade than the stock unit but I'd imagine the swirl plates have something to do with that.

Maybe. But again, I showed him pictures of what I was referring to. Idk what he was thinking.
