SLP Torque Converters?
I'm tight on cash so I could only spend around $300.00. A friend of mine is using this converter and gets great results from it. I originally thought is was a 2600 stall for my Vette but their web site lists it as a 2400 stall.
Anybody else use this converter and what were your results??
Hey Magoo...... you can ID the stall on the converter by the letters or numbers stamped in it. Look between the ridges around the circumfrence ... they are the same all the way around and they are coded to stall....... I have a listing for some of these and you can see them by dropping the dust sheild :seeya

Thanks bud, I should be recieving it in about a week.......I'll check it out.
I've been running the Impala/SLP converter on my Impala for ~30K miles, been very happy with it. Made over 50 passes on my Impala, that's working it
I am using a Raptor 2,600 and I have been very happy with it. I think I paid $150 for it brand new from ebay. Rick (KamaroSS) with the 87 uses the same one.
I've had that converter in my `85 for about 15K and had no problems at all behind my old motor (9.5:1 355/360HP), we'll see in a few weeks when my new 408 is installed though!
I am using one behind a modified LT-1 with 3.33 gears. I think it is a great compromise for a street car. I can hit low 1.8x 60 ft times on regular street tires. I don't get to flash the convertor or I will spin, but it was very easy to launch. My first time out in the auto, I beat my manuals best 60 ft time. I drove a Firebird with a modified Lt-1 with a Vigilante 3200 and it was way to high for what I want to do with the car. My girlfriend drives the auto alot and I wanted a nice "streetable" ride. I am perfectely happy with the convertor so far. Good luck
I just had a 2000rpm stall B&M put in mine along with the shift kit and rebuild. I am not sure what the difference between SLP and B&M but they are most likely very similar considering the B&M is between $280-$300. Even the 2000rpm made a significant difference. :)
What stall would all of you recommend for a relatively stock C4 with performance axle like mine? I am thinking 2,000 to 2,400 max. Most of the LS1 folks on LS1.com go with a 2,900 to 3,200 Vigilante or Yank. If I would mod a C5 or our T/A, I would probably go with a 2,900 Vig

Alex D:
Since your car has an LT1, I would go for a 2,300-2,500 stall range if it were me. Your LT1 has powerband higher in the rpm range and would benefit more from the extra rpms compared to my L98. Mine probably would have gained a little more from going to that stall range but I am very pleased with it. You COULD go higher but I don't think it is necessary for a street car. Even with the 2,000 I can tell a difference in slowly taking off; its is just a little bit looser than stock...well worth the feel under some throttle.
Thanks for the info WEH !
tell me a little more about how lose the new converter feels compared to the stock converter. I actually would like to stick closer to the 2,000 range since I don't race my cars......I like the looser converter when you do a roll on at higher speeds, like on the interstate....where did you ge the 2,000 stall converter? SLP only sells 2,400 and up......Yank starts at 2,600 rpm.......
