Default SLP Cold Air Intake Filter(s) Cleaning/Oiling

Looks like I have the synthetic Blackwing cold air intake and want to clean the filters (first time since I bought the '96 coupe LT1 about 6 weeks ago) and don't know if/when they were last cleaned.

Need some advice, I'd like to buy a kit (cleaner and oil) and I see a kit with "red" oil. What's that about, color of the filter? Does it matter?

Also, how do these filters look, maybe they need replacing? Can replacement filters be purchased? Heck, I was considering going back to stock but that means purchasing the original items.

Any recommendations from you experienced folks will be greatly appreciated.

This is what I ordered from slponline.com. And from the picture, appears the filters haven't recently been cleaned/oiled.

Most of the clean and oil kits are very overpriced for what they are. Many have coloring that I didn't want too.

You can make your own kit easily from common fluids.

For the cleaner just use simple green to wash the filters.

For the re-oil most are just a mixture of alcohol and mineral oil. Put it in a spray bottle and apply it sparingly. It doesn't need much. If you put too much on you can get oil coming through the filters to the mass air flow sensor.

Easy, cheap, and quick.

Good luck.

PS. I have the same intake except that I have the earliest version when it was called a K&N triple and gloss black paint.

Over oiling filter(s) can damage MAF sensor.

Have you ever used the CRC MAF Cleaner? Supposedly they say if you wash it every so often, you can keep it clean just in case there is oil on the elements/
