I don't have a sound file, but I had a set on my 84 and liked them. The painted ones eventually got pretty bad looking with corrosion, so I picked up a set of the stainless steel ones from Mid America. Same good sound, lifetime of stainless steel. Much better.
I have the targas that MAD calls their ZR1 targa style mufflers. Basically, they are glass pack resonators. I got the chrome ones with the painted interior. I have not had any rust, but the carbon discolored the red after a couple of months. I just sanded and repainted them. They came out great. I was skeptical when I learned that they were glass packs. I always thought (from years ago) glass packs wear out as the glass burns up and the sound gets muffled kind of. Well, mine still sound great after one year.
The sound file in my sig will give you an idea of how they sound. It's a Quicktime mov file (5 minute download wait time-but worth it).
I had the same ones pictured in Bob's reply except mine were the all black ones. Here's the pros and cons in my opinion:
Pros -Good looking tail pipes from the rear
-Straight through design
-Sound decent at idle and a nice roar at WOT
-Inexpensive
Cons -Weld quality was poor and started to rust quickly (even
though I don't drive it in the rain)
-I bought the catback system and the fitment was horrible
(took a muffler shop to heat a rebend the system to
make it fit)
-Only offered in 2.25" diameter
-Minimal (if any) performance increase
Not a bad system for the money, but I ended changing to two-chamber flowmasters and 2.5" diameter pipes throughout and saw a huge increase in performance. :yesnod:
Those are basicly the same as the "Dual Tip" mufflers from pacesetter correct, they are also a glass pack resonater? I am thinking of getting the pacesetter set up, thanks for that sound clip
