How much should it cost to have a replacement done due to a leak?

Re: VALVE COVER GASKET (ELEVENS)
I have a 85 L98. I think I may need both sides. Could you please break it down bi side as well as a 2 side job?

Re: VALVE COVER GASKET (RUSS105)
I know the 85 is a bit different from my 89 but book time for mine is:
$13 per gasket
Right Bank: 4.0 hours
Left Bank: .8 hours
Both Banks: 4.7 hours
That should give you an idea, someone with more '85 knowledge should chime in.
Why not do this yourself and save $400? :smash: :D

And you'll learn something about your car in the process.

Your '85 is easier than the '88 and later L98s but you still need to remove the EGR tube and maybe move some accessories forward to clear the covers.
Maybe 2-3hrs of labor plus the gaskets; make sure your mechanic uses the FelPro PermaSeal gaskets.
Give your local Chevy dealer a call; the quote and their rate will tell you how long it takes.
