Default 1989 engine upgrade

Hello, new to the forum and Vette ownership. Thanks for all the posts...wealth of info. I have mining the past posts. I am planning a 383 upgrade for the car, efi, somewhere over 400 hp.

My question - is the stock transmission suitable or should i look intoa hughes / monster / etc. Not planning to drag the car, just want a sweet sleeper that should i want to jump on, it will respond.

Thanks!

It's a budget thing. Condition and miles on what you have. The stock 700r4 should take it for a while. You should plan on stall converter, engine characteristics should determine rpm. I would look to local reputable builder. Mail order assembly can lead to a lot of down time when things don't go well. Shipping back and forth and all. You should also consider either gear change or d44 upgrade with 3.45 or 3.54 gears. D36 gear change can run closs to the cost of a used D44.

Thanks for the response. I hear you. So much subjectivity and experiences of others. I like the old school characteristics of my model and generation. Would like to have a true sleeper, but be able to take a road trip with it. Not looking to shred tires, but want to build a reliable performance orientated roadster.

Current plan is to replace engine, tranny, and swap current 3.07 for 3.54 in the pumpkin. Just not sure what engine configuration to go with. Doing the transplants myself. Was thinking of crate motor with add ons possibly strong base motor and super charger. ???

My main goal is to keep the stock look and have a very un-assuming sound. My budget is over 5 figures for the motor/ drive train, if I have to go there. Already replaced a bunch of OE stuff. The previous owner really took care of ride. Original shocks, spark plugs, etc.

Thanks again for the response.

Trying to work through as many options as possible.

Warbear. I was new to the forum in 2012 with my '89. I drove it 100 miles before tinkering.Haven't driven it since. These past few weeks we've been assembling AN fuel lines and laying out our brand new $3k engine wiring harness
I still hope to drive it again soon.Wanna see a pic of the new wiring harness?
