I'm getting ready to redo my seats and I'm trying to decide what I want, drivers leather or regular. I have no idea how these two compare to each other so please advise.
Re: how does drivers leather compare to regular (castivers)
I replaced my originals with the "drivers leather" and I couldn't be happier. They are just as thick as the originals and I found absolutely nothing wrong with them, no reason whatsoever to get the regular version.

"drivers leather"
You mean when they sell you a leather cover for the drivers seat and a vinyl cover for the passenger seat?
No, "Drivers" is a way to describe a set of blem leathers. They only come in black and supposedly are not as perfect as the regular seat covers. They cost about $200 less a set.

My guess is that Drivers leather is a corrected leather.
Only about 5% of hides are clean enough that the
scars don't need sanded and embossed to look good.
The more correcting that is done to make it look good
weakens the surface somewhat.
Most car leather is corrected to some degree, plus have
ultraviolet protection applied. That is why you won't see
or feel much difference in auto leather.
One exception is Connely leather used in Rolls and Bently's,
hides only come from ranches that don't use wire fencing.

One more thing.
If you have a choice in perforated or non-perf, go with non-perf.
The problem with the little holes in leather is that sweat goes in and the
oils in the leather dry out. This causes it to crack sooner.
Use a good conditioner to get oils back in to keep it soft.
By the way, under my Wet Okles are the 87 factory perf. leather.
The previous owner never switched seats side to side to even
out the use. The passenger is perfect.
The factory leather is highly corrected, so I wouldn't be afraid
to order Drivers.
Hope this helps,
Dave

I've had the covers on for a year now and they look
like new.
The only complaint is the pre-cut holes for switches on my
sport seats tend to shift around.
If you have standard seats it's not an issue.
With covers you don't have to worry about replacing
the foam buns if their starting to go.
I think leather looks better than the covers, bet the
covers breath better.
