Default Paging Nathan P.

I've been reading a few of your posts about your gains with the Hotcam,Roller Rockers, and electric water pump. Could you tell me Which companie you went with of each product and why? I'd also like to make my vavletrain pretty solid. If you could give me any information on your setup i'd appreciate it. I have a 1996 a4 LT1, 30k... w/ exhaust, xpipe, nickel and dime mods. I'm looking for a 44rwhp gain for a winter project :). Thanks for ya help.

Sure, no problem.

Essentially you can find the entire list of my mods on my webpage here.
http://www.wku.edu/~nathan.plemons

For the 44 hp gain that I had in round one of modifications I went with the following

GM Performance Parts LT4 Hot Cam
Comp Cams Pro Magnum Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Comp Cams Hardened Pushrods
Comp Cams Pushrod Guide Plates
Crane Cams Gold Self Aligning 1.6 Roller Rockers (yes, that's self aligning with guideplates, long story)
Internet Racer's Supply "Terminator" Double Valve Springs
Meziere Heavy Duty Electric Water Pump
MSD GM Blaster Ignition Coil
MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm Plug Wires
NGK TR55 spark plugs
160 Degree Thermostat
Computer was tuned by Ed Wright

Now if I had it to do over again I would do a few things differently. First let me explain that I never inteneded to buy the cam. It all started when I bought just the roller rockers on e-bay for real cheap. Then I got into the "while I'm into it" phase and bought all the rest. As such I could probably have actually purchased a Hot Cam Kit for what the springs, rockers, and cam cost me individually. However, that brings me to one of the things I wouldn't have done. The springs I got from IRS aren't horrible but they're not great either. The LT4 spring that comes with the Hot Cam kit isn't so great either. So I would use a good spring to start with and you won't have to worry about valve float. I have also since replaced my pushrods with trick flow single piece units. They cost a little more but they are better pushrods.

I would also replace the timing set. If you're doing an electric water pump then you can use pretty much anything you want, I'm now running a cloyes double roller. I've heard though that the 96 can cause some trouble on this due to the crankshaft position sensor. You might want to contact Neil, Arisa on the forum, and ask him about the crankshaft sensor, he's fought that battle.

My gains were on a completely stock exhaust BTW, so you might stand to gain a little bit more depending on how your exhaust is set up. If you have any questions about the specifics be sure and let me know.
