Hello Everyone
I have two quick questions: first I need some opinions on the best tires for my '89 auto coupe. Second, what is the price range I should expect to pay repaint the dark metallic red color I currently have?
I just got some estimates on my vette here in the Washington DC area. They ranged from $2000 to $4500. I was a little shocked at the $4500 estimate until they described in detail how they do it. From what I saw, the $4500 shop does excellent work but I'd want to see a vette they've done before I spend that king of money. I'm probably going to put it off. I don't really want to spend $4500 right now, but I also don't want to get a crappy paint job.
Good things are seldom cheap and cheap things are seldom good. Better to spend more than you planned than less than you should.
Paint... thats a loaded question... if the paint is clean, then all you need is a refinish if the paint...
if there is a lot of work required, then you have to consider the special requirements of sealing the SMC (Sheet Molded Compound) that is used to build the skin on the Vette. SMC has a built in release agent, so the gel coat needs to be sealed properly, or the paint will fall right off!
Here in Huntington Beach....I can get 17" ZR1'S AND TIRES FOR $2300.00..the place is in Fountain Valley, CA....Check your latest issue of corvette fever mag......gives you the address.....I personally haven't done this yet....but as soon as I pass it by my better half of the last 39 years...you can bet I will buy...
Just some simple info. for you...she read this and said noooooooooo.Holy Crap....where did she sneak up from.....
As far as tires I like Michelins had bridgestones before lots of road noise with them. Paint I don't have a clue but you probably get what you pay for!

You can get them from www.afswheels.com and a few other companies for a lot less than that. I believe AFS is about $1500 shipped for their ZR-1 wheel/tire packages.
