I'm curious about what kind of hp/torque inprovements I would get on my LT4 with a port/polish of the heads and the hot cam. I'm sure there a few here who have done this! ;)
OK, lemme ask the question differently... What work should I do to the top end to get a nice hp improvement? The car has 68k and is strong as hell. Last dyno was at Cruise In III on the Breathless Performance mobile dyno. Here it is
I'm doing heads/cam now and hoping for a 90hp gain. The stock LT1 doesn't breathe as good as a stock LT4, but I would assume your not going to get the same increase. You're at a better starting point.
I've never seen a head/cam LT car put down over 420rwhp.
I think Next Genereation Motorsport did his fathers LT4 with A Lot of head work and a nice size cam and put down ~410rwhp & ~360rwtq.
What did the head/cam work cost? I'm in the planning stages now and am gonna have to start squirreling some money away.
It depends on a lot of factors. If you go with a very aggressive cam, like the cc306, you have to do additional work to the heads to deal with the aggressive lift.
I'm thinking LT4 Hotcam. Is there a better choice than this? I'm looking for ideas from the experienced.

Is your car completely stock and are those numbers corrected on a dynojet dyno? They are VERY strong numbers. Typical LT4's are around 300 rwhp or so.
As for a good heads/cam setup, I always liked to think that you should be able to see at least 75+ rwhp for it to be worth it and closer to 100 rwhp gain to really get your $'s worth. The Hot Cam is a very good, relatively mild , very streetable cam choice. The only problem , if it could be called that , is that it will limit you to around 375 rwhp in a heads/cam setup. I have seen several LT4's with : cut lid/filter, bigger MAF, bigger TB, ported intake, worked heads, HotCam, longtubes, catback, and a chip dyno from around 365 to about 380 rwhp depending on the exact setup etc. With more aggressive cams you can see 400 rwhp and beyond.
All this depends on several things . First , what do you want the car to do? Do you need peak performance for racing? Do you want the car as streetable as possible? etc....... The HotCam is a good choice any way you look at it , its just that you can get quite a bit more if you are willing to compromise more.......I have seen 420+ from heads/cam LT4's but I dont know how streetable they truly were...... :seeya
I drive the car hard and it definitely has more power than when I bought it used. The previous owner drove it gently and I firmly believe driving it harder has made an improvement.
I want it to be streetable and be a beast at the track.
