..... I was under the 'vette yesterday to inspect the drivetrain ... had a high frequency vibration at speed ... turned out to be a broken u-joint ... inspection discovered a wavy C-beam .....
I have done a lot of u-joints and never seen them break up like that. How long was it making a vibration? The only thing I can think of is that after the u-joint failed, it kept running until the rollers broke up and finally wedged themselves to break it.
I have also never seen a C-beam like that. I have seen a lot of high powered cars that the C-beam never failed, so I wonder if this is a result of a previous wreck. Any history on the car?

Good luck.
..... I drag race the hell out of this car ... it vibrated only on the big end of a single 1/4 mile pass at a test n tune event last week ... l usually only run an 1/8th mile but thought it'd be nice to see where the car is at on a 1/4 ... 10.68 BTW ... the C-beam has been shortened/modified to accommodate a Turbo 400 transmission ... my car needs a snubber on the pinion and l will get one fabbed up soon .....
Are you certain that the waves are from damage or did you use a zf6 d44 c beam? I believe all the zf6 d44 c beams have waves in the x bracing portion of the beam whereas the d36 beams are all flat.
I removed my zf6 d44 beam, which had been shortened for my TKO 600 and thought it was odd that it was wavy but found a couple posts about it and quite a few pictures of beams with the waves. I replaced it with a d36 beam with virgin holes because the previous owner that did the swap had drilled the holes a little too big and I was getting movement at the trans. The d36 beam was flat.

Both of my cars (D44/6 speed cars) are wavy like that.
..... Well that's a relief ! ... l thought l f'ed it up ! ... I have a few other C-beams kicking around and none of them are wavy , even the ones with the silver tape on the top side ... those are supposedly for D44 and manual trans cars .....
My beam is like that as well. I also have tons of ujoints that failed the same way. The needle bearings just disintegrate. Found another this weekend. I could usually hear it clicking when backing up. I check them after every race. The spicer joints hold up and not break, now if I could find needle bearings that hold up! I saw the aluminum strap replacements Van Steel sells and wounder if they would help any?
