Hello I have a C4 and the headlight is stuck open. There is no clicking sound. Do I bother taking it apart or do I assume the motor is burned out and just replace the whole thing. Thanks in advance.
welcome.....lots of good help here.....you need to post the year each time.....there is a "spindle" sort of that you can crank the light up or down......check wiring...if one works and the other doesn't.......you may need a new motor.....
Is it the Passenger or Driver's light?
Check the three relays under the driver's headlight. Mine had filled with water and rusted internally.
Two of the relays are identical. One for each light. The third relay (Isolation Relay) seems to only control the "down" action of the passenger light (I would have to look at the schematic again for other functions). The good news is that if you passenger light is stuck up, that relay is only $15 and is a normal stock item at most Autozones.
If it is your driver light, swap the two identical relays and see if the problem follows the relay or the light.
This is the same lighting system that was in the Fiero's (which I used to collect). I have seldom (never) run across a bad motor. Stripped gears yes. Burnt out limit switches (leading to stripped gears) yes. Burned up motor or brushes... never. But I am sure it happens....
