Hey all the Alt in the car stopped charging. I bought a replacement from Auto Zone it charged for 3 minutes and then stopped charging! What am I missing here? Please help. its a 1992

Check the plug at the bottom of the alternator. The plastic gets brittle and they fall apart keeping the three wires from making good contact. If the plug is bad, Auto zone carry’s replacements. Be careful when you swap the pins. You have to know how to take it apart. There’s a white plastic peace that slides out. Then you can remove the pins.
disconnect the battery before you do this. The plug tells the alternator to charge.
I bought an ACDelco for my '89 and haven't had any issue at all - good product. Good idea to have the battery tested as well to make sure you're not trying to charge a corpse.
