Default Better Flowing Heads Only

Hey everyone I'm considering having my heads and intake ported by Elliott's (96 LT1 38k) but leaving my stock cam in place . Since the car has short miles and is unmolested I'm reluctant to tear to far into the motor . My question is how much power can I expect to gain or how much power am I leaving on the table by not doing the cam ? I know there are no hard fast numbers on this without a dyno tune but I'm hoping to hear from some of you that have done the top end build . I do plan on using 1.6 rockers and new injectors .

I am going to suggest you discuss this with Lloyd Elliott. I had about a 10 minute conversation with him to select my cam to go with the ported heads for my combo. I am doing a bit more than you are, but still it is good to discuss with him. I don't know why you are protective of the Cam if you are pulling the heads and intake off.

Stock cam wont be able to work the heads hard enough to really reap the benefit.
Lifters should be fine but definitely put a cam in it....if you have 1.6 rockers dont go too crazy on the ramps so the springs arent going nuts approaching 6k seems to be a common problem.

You're right! I should have used my eyeballs and actually read what he posted.

Thanks for the correction.

I would want flow sheets before and after.Concentrate on the low and mid lift flow for a stock or mild cam.1'6 rockers and new springs I would guess 20-30 hp depending on the porting.

If you don't have a way to dyno tune the car near you may be better off leaving the cam alone.Good time to do headers if you are inclined. Some Stainless Works 1 5/8 long tubes would help a bit as well.

Thanks to all that have replied . A couple of reasons I posted my question was the dyno tuning factor (I haven't found anyone yet) and the fact I can do the R&R labor on the heads and intake myself if I so choose . I've been looking at installing a 95 OBDI pcm to get around some of the tuning issues . My cheapest option would be to do nothing and enjoy the car the way it is but I'm not sure I can do that .
