Default 1985 ECM Swap

I'm looking into doing the ECM swap on my 85 to a newer ECM. Mostly I want to be able to get the real time data but a few benefits, like being able to change out the MAF to a newer style, etc. hold some appeal.

So here's the question. I know about some resources. Everybody seems to love this page https://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap/

But as a computer guy I'm interested in digging deeper. If possible I'd love to get the code, find out what chip is running the 1227165 ECM and figure out how all the instructions, etc. work. Obviously if people know how to tune these the info has to be out there somewhere. Anyone have a lead? Google hasn't turned up anything useful for me yet.

This is what you want and need based off what you are saying - http://www.dynamicefi.com/

Good thread here about it and what it can do. LONG read! - https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...uning-ebl.html

I had my car tuned by TPIS but it still doesn't really run all that great. Once the weather gets cooler I'm going to pull the trigger and swap to this system.

If you gonna be one and done, I would jump for a EBL but the thought was that once I fuel infect 1 vehicle, I'm gonna want to do my entire fleet or perhaps help others with their projects. With EBL, I believe you lose the MAF but that's not a bad thing. Mikes page in the starting post is a good place to start as you need to change your ECMs card style connectors to the later pin style connector. Some one is selling a used one on the gearhead site^^^but it's probably for TBI and not sure if it'll run 8 injectors. As long as I've been doing this, I haven't dabbled into the code. A good search term is to look for "disassemblies" or "*hac."

Ahhh...I need to look before I leap...I was probably thinking about the '84 CFI ECMs...

I have an 85, I messed around with disassembling the code , it's a 6800 processor that I am already familiar with, but the thing is the comm port is so slow and the data packet so lacking I gave up. Upgrading to a later year ecm seems like the best way to go (I have all the parts I need to go to an ecm from an 87) I am still holding of on doing the work until I fully understand what each splice will be and which piins are moving where. The ecm swap page is really useful, but I am just not feeling it yet.

Look at http://www.dynamicefi.com/
Im about to do this mod this week and the support has been wonderful. No more MAF and Burn off module to deal with and you switch to a MAP sensor. Just a few pin changes on the ECM connector and run with it. Self learning heads up display and all the tuning you want or need.
