Remove the trim pieces around the hatch, as I recall you just pull up and out, its slip-fit in there in a notch, no fasteners that I remember. Its been a few years.

Thanks for the reply!

I tried that - possibly I didn't pull up hard enough...I read something about a slightly later year and that guy (YouTube video) said about the same thing....Another net said that there is a release that you press but, none seen - none visible.....Hate to break it but, have a spare in case I do...I shined a BRIGHT light back there and didn't see a notch...Will try again in a day or so - game called on account of rain.

I don't think I can get in there.....The "structure" it mounts to/into is non flexible steel and, the body taper seemingly makes in impossible to slide a putty knife in there....Besides, I would have to apply pressure to the "shade pin" and walk it in ...I don't think the shade pins mount in any hole so-to-speak but, could possibly be just 2 fixed "non-spring-loaded" pins from the shade ends resting in a notch...Then again, I cannot see the notch if there is one.

(1988 Corvette coup)...
I just ran into an issue at the back deck area (1988 Corvette coup)...I could not remove the cargo shade no matter what I did...

1)...I pushed in on either side and tried lifting it out - NO GOOD..

2)...I took a very long heavy flat blade screwdriver and again, -NO GOOD...

3)...I took a pry-bar (because it was "fatter" than the screwdriver I tried,)
wedged it behind the plastic that was part of the shade and slowly started
to pry, which causes the end mount of shade to compress inward towards towards center
of shade and - IT WORKED!

The reason why it worked was because of it's thickness....
I did not have the room or, the leverage to "pull" the end far enough out of the
stationary bracket . Once inserted, all I had to do is push on it and out it came (UP)...

After a bit, I found this helpful link...Good reading with clear picts...

Use a long Medium to Large flat screwdriver, either end but seemed to have better luck with the driver's side.
First a little how it works, it's much like a window blind under spring tension pushing into pockets.
You're mission is to wedge between the end cap and pocket mounted on the car, so push between compress with a twist of screwdriver (need about 5/16 to 1/2" of compression) to get free with a tug on the shade near screwdriver

I don't need to use anything as it has been removed already....

First a little how it works,
I know how it works (grin)...

it's much like a window blind under spring tension pushing into pockets.
I know how it works (grin)...

You're mission
"MY" mission??.....It has already done they way I describe above...

is to wedge between the end cap and pocket mounted on the car,
"pocket"?.....The end of the shade is plastic and fits into a groove of sorts (see link I provided)...Using a fat screwdriver, it was not thick enough so, as stated, used a pry bar only because it was thicker.....I moved it slightly and the shade released from stationary "bracket"

so push between compress with a twist of screwdriver (need about 5/16 to 1/2" of compression) to get free with a tug on the shade near screwdriver
???????huh?.....

1)....Take a fat pry-bar,...
2)....and insert between the shade and the "car bracket"....
3)...and barely move and it releases..

If you thought taking it out brought happiness and joy in your life, just wait until you go to put that thing back in. It's a delight.
