Default WHY RESIZE THE RODS

WHY WOULD I HAVE TO RESIZE MY RODS IF I AM GOING TO PUT ARP ROD BOLTS IN MY ZZ3 ENGINE. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE MOTOR, I JUST WANT TO PUT IN A SET OF STRONGER ROD BOLTS. ENGINE ONLY HAVE 3000 MILES ON IT. I AM ASKING BECAUSE SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE RODS RESIZED. THATS M0NEY I DON`T HAVE TO SPEND RIGHT NOW. MAYBE I SHOULD WAIT.

i wouldn't even bother with the bolts. it's a lot of work for a small improvment, also re torquing on the bearings. granted arps bolts are better & i'm using them the stock rings will probably fail before the rods do. whoever said you had to resize the rods was probably thinking you were doing new bearings and or just knows GM never sets bearing clearance worth a damn. resizing rods would include pulling the whole engine down however. if you do that you might as well balance it better and upgrade the rings too. i'd just leave well enough alone if i were you.

the old bolts were resized to the rods from the factory so when you change the bolts it can be off slightly and have bad allignment possibly throw a rod or a spin a bearing its only about $80 to do all 8 cheap insurance

Resizing the rods is where the rod is checked for the bearing surface being out of round.Usually this is done when rod bearings are replaced and usually on an engine that has had alot of miles on it.I don't think you would need to do this. The bolts are not going to resize the rod. What happens is the rod end caps get distorted and the new rod bearings might not fit tight due to the out of round rods which can cause the bearings to spin.

anytime you change rod bolts you should resize the rod the old bolts were mated to the rods now you are putting in different bolts which can change that orignal allignment think of it this way take out the bolts now look at both ends of the rod and caps they are flat so what locates them hmm the rod bolt does if the new rod bolt if off say 1-2 thosands then your allignment will be different this can be criticle we are talking about a 2500-8000 dollar engine here not your $100 brigs and straton lawn mower call any reputable machine shop and ask them if you do not believe me
