Default header question

I am adding a set of headers to my x-mas list.I was looking at the 2151 hookers. These headers don't have the emission tubes and don't have the o2 bung.My question is,does the o2 bung get welded on to the header? If it needs to be welded what happens to the thermal coating?

they aren't thermal coated. tpis will sell you a 02 bung that can be welded anywhere for $5, lingenfelter has thicker ones for twice that. the 2151 is the non emission header and the 2149 is the same thing with the air tubes and a ceramic coating.

You must grind off the ceramic coating in the area common to where you weld. I had to weld an o2 bung into the pass side of my LPE L-98 headers, & they were ceramic coated. I've got a TIG welder so I tried to get a puddle started W/O removing the coating, turned the amps to 175 & still never got one to start. The ceramic coating is good stuff.

As stated above, the 2151 Hooker headers are uncoated. The Hooker 2151-1 IS coated. Hooker 2149 headers are coated and have all the smog fittings. You could use the 2149's and plug the unused connections, weld a bung to the 2151's, as they come and have them coated (or not), or get the 2151-1's and use a reducer with the O2 bung. Good luck.

What is a reducer ? Does that go between the header and the y pipe?I want to get the 2151-1 with the coating but if i am going to mess them up with the welding i will go with the uncoated ones.

It needs to go in the collector really. The further away from the origial location you go the more chance it won't work due to the lack of heat.

You can get a bung fitted and coat them afterwards

The reducer is the adaptor or connecter that bolts to the header collector flange and is welded (usually) to the exsisting exhaust pipe. They are available with an O2 bung in them or you could add one to an exsisting reducer. The O2 requires heat to work. If is too far away from the engine to "light off" properly, you can use a three wire (heated O2).

Don't make the same mistake I did by placing the bung in the Y-pipe without a heated o2.

Are you positive the 2151s do not have an O2 bung? I could of sworn they did on the driver's side in the #7 primary just like my 2149s do.
