Did you make sure they are plugged in? There is a plug in connection for each light forward of the wheel wells along side the body. These are frequently disconnected by repair shops and for car shows to keep the battery from draining. If thats not the problem open the passenger side door and you will see the fuse panel on the side of the dash.

My 94 has a fuse for the underhood lights located in the left front fender well, just in front of the tire. Should be sitting right next to the left turn signal housing.
There is a fuse for the underhood lights under the hood.
It is on the drivers side attached to the side just above the side marker light.
It is encapsulated in a hinged case. Pop it open and check if a fuse is even there or pull it and see if it is blown, if not then check the regular fuses for blown fuses.
Usually when you have a blown fuse in the fuse box, you will hear a buzzing noise(instead of the chime) when you insert the ignition key.
If I get a chance, I'll try to snap a pic of the underhood location of the fuse.
Also, your bulbs may be blown, but I doubt it since the lights in my '95 work.
Also check if the previous owner installed a switch to turn them off.
:D Hey thanks guys! I checked by the left front under hood found fuse holder, opened and....NO FUSE! I just bought this car so I'm still learnin'!! This is my third Vet. Had a 79 for 11 years then a 90 for five (lost her in a divorce). :nopity Takin' the fuse out is a good idea for workin' under the hood. I love my LT1!!!!!!!!!! :hat
Gar, now that you have located the fuse holder for the engine compartment lights, you might want to consider installing a switch so that you will be able to turn your lights on and off, as required. Simply purchase a 12V toggle switch from any automotive store ($10). Cut one wire leading to the fuse holder and install the switch wires. Mount the switch in any convenient location. I used an existing screw that holds the liner to the fender located just above the fuse holder.
